PHILANTHROPY

Alpha Gamma Delta’s philanthropic focus is fighting food insecurity. Every 1 in 8 Americans are food insecure, and every race, gender, and community are affected. In the Gamma Alpha chapter, we strive each year to benefit the local Athens community through our dedication to service and fundraising. Every year we host two big philanthropy events, Mr. Milledge and Alpha Gam Jam, to raise money for the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation. With our partners, Meals on Wheels and Feeding America, the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation is fueled by our sisters' passion to fight hunger nationwide and in Athens.

MR. MILLEDGE

Mr. Milledge is our annual fall philanthropy event where we hold a fraternity pageant that consists of representatives from each UGA fraternity. Each of the contestants compete with their best game day outfit, best pick-up line, and showcase their unique talent. They try to impress our guests and our panel of judges which have included UGA football players, the Panhellenic President, and the IFC President. This year, Cam Smith of Beta Upsilon Chi won Crowd Favorite and Will Watson of Theta Tau Iota Epsilon was crowned Mr. Milledge. We are extremely proud to have raised over $15,000 for the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation from 2022's event!

ALPHA GAM JAM

Alpha Gam hosts its annual spring philanthropy event, Alpha Gam Jam, during the spring semester. This year we had live music, including live performances from Sam Knight Band and Will Slater & The 53. We catered food from Propaganda Pizza Truck and dessert sponsored by Crumbl Cookies and Andy's Frozen Custard. We also had flower arrangement from our bouquet-making bar. Three pop-up shops were at the event, including Chan Art, Katie Bop, and Beaded by Meg. The proceeds from the event were donated to the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation, supporting our chapter's philanthropy of fighting food insecurity. From this event alone, our chapter was able to raise over $10,000 to go towards the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation last year!

Cameron Coates

VP OF PHILANTHROPY

My name is Cameron Coates and I am honored to serve as Alpha Gam’s Vice President of Philanthropy. Our chapter raises funds and awareness for our philanthropy of fighting food insecurity, an issue that significantly affects our Athens community.

We partner with Athens, Meals on Wheels where our members volunteer at grocery packing and delivery events throughout the year. In addition to Meals on Wheels, we host monthly service events with a variety of volunteer organizations, such as the Athens Area Human Society, Project Safe, The Backpack Project of Athens, and more.

One of the highlights of this past year’s service events happened during our annual Week of Service in February. During this week, members decorated and volunteered at a local elementary school’s Valentine's Ball. Events like these allow us to give back to the Athens community that has given us so much.

I am proud to serve in this position because I am inspired by the commitment and dedication of our members to service and our philanthropy. From service events to percentage nights to our annual philanthropy events, we work together to embody the line of our purpose: “to welcome the opportunity of contributing to the world’s work in the community where I am placed.”

One of the main reasons I am grateful to be an Alpha Gam is seeing our chapter’s positive impact on our philanthropy and local community through our service. I will always be thankful to this chapter for providing us the opportunity to find purpose and a community through giving back to our home away from home.
